WILMINGTON,‍ Del. — The former spouse of Hunter Biden, son‍ of President Joe Biden, is slated ⁣to take the stand on Wednesday. ‍The focus of her testimony​ will be Hunter Biden’s alleged ⁣drug use, which prosecutors argue he dishonestly concealed ⁢to unlawfully purchase a firearm.

In this unprecedented trial involving a‌ U.S. president’s offspring, the prosecution team has⁣ asserted that they have evidence proving Hunter Biden intentionally misrepresented his ⁤drug use on the screening form he filled out when ​he bought a handgun in ​October⁢ 2018. However, his ⁢defense attorney has ⁢argued that Hunter Biden was ​not using drugs during that period and had ⁢no intention to deceive.

The ⁣jury was presented with text messages, financial records, and excerpts from‍ the ⁣audiobook version of ​Hunter⁢ Biden’s autobiography. The⁢ prosecution argues these pieces⁤ of evidence‍ demonstrate that he⁢ was ⁢regularly using crack ⁢cocaine around the time he acquired ⁢the ‌firearm, including the day after the purchase.

“Addiction is not ​a crime. Lying is,” stated prosecutor Derek Hines.

At 54 years old, Hunter Biden has entered ‌a ‌plea of not guilty‌ to three felony charges.​ These charges ⁢accuse him of ⁣not disclosing his illegal drug ⁤use when he ​purchased the firearm and of unlawfully possessing ‍the weapon for 11​ days.

This trial comes on the ⁤heels of another historic event —⁤ the criminal conviction of Donald Trump last week, marking the first time a U.S. president has been found guilty of a felony.‍ Trump is the Republican⁤ contender against Joe Biden, a Democrat, in the upcoming Nov. 5 election.

While nothing stated during Hunter ‌Biden’s trial directly addressed this issue, the prosecution emphasized ​that “no one is ⁤above the law.”

Hines ⁢informed the jury that⁢ they⁤ would soon hear testimonies from Kathleen Buhle, Hunter‌ Biden’s ex-wife, his former girlfriend Zoe Kestan, and Hallie Biden, the widow‍ of his late brother Beau Biden. All three are​ expected to provide‌ insight ⁤into Hunter ⁤Biden’s prolonged battle with drugs and ​alcohol, according to‍ Hines.

Abbe Lowell, Hunter Biden’s ⁤attorney, stated that the ⁢president’s son​ has been transparent about his struggles with ⁤addiction, as detailed in his 2021 memoir “Beautiful Things.” He assured ⁢the jury that the evidence will demonstrate that Hunter Biden was not using drugs when⁣ he purchased the firearm and did not perceive himself ‌as a⁣ drug user at that time.
