Concerns Over the Proposed Walmart
I have serious concerns about the recent announcement of a new Walmart proposal. My foremost concern is regarding the residents living nearby who can be affected by the tremendous increase in traffic, light and noise pollution. I am also concerned about our local businesses, many of them may be outcompeted by Walmart’s admittedly low prices. There is a charm and essential service to Schenectady which cannot be replaced by any nationwide chain. The city must revise this proposal in-depth before moving forward.

The Senate Street Pothole Issue
I am writing this letter to voice my concerns regarding the state of Senate Street. I have lived here for 6 years and I have never seen the road in such poor condition. The potholes are so bad that they cause damage to vehicles and are also a potential hazard to pedestrians, especially at night. I believe our city’s infrastructure should be a priority and a vital step towards enhancing the quality of life in Schenectady. I strongly urge the city council to allocate funds for immediate repair work.

Increase in Local Crime Rates
As a resident of Schenectady, I have witnessed an alarming increase in local crime rates over the past few months. Not a day seems to go by without reading or hearing about a burglary, car theft or assault. It is unfortunate that we are facing these problems and I believe that immediate measures need to be taken. The first step in combating this crime wave is increasing visibility of our police force especially in areas flagged as hotspots. I also think a community watch program could work wonders, encouraging neighbors to look out for one another.
