NEW YORK (WKBW) — In a move to support families facing increased financial hardships, New York Governor Kathy Hochul has announced a one-time payment of $100 to households enrolled in public assistance with children 17 or younger.
Thanks to $12 million in federal funding, these Family Economic Support payments are being provided to help cover the expenses of households that have been hit hard by the pandemic.
“Our state has been successful in providing federal assistance to some of our most vulnerable residents, and as a result, we have qualified for additional funding that has gone unused by other states. This critical support will give families quick access to much-needed financial relief, which has been long overdue.”
The governor’s office reports that approximately 120,000 families with children are qualified for this assistance. Eligible households will begin receiving payments on Tuesday, and they will be notified by mail.
“These one-time payments, although modest, will make a significant difference for families on Public Assistance, especially during these difficult times when all households are facing increased costs for basic needs. We are grateful to Governor Hochul for her efforts to help support and provide for families across the state.”
