Heartbreaking news out of Chelsea, Alabama as a 3-month-old baby tragically lost their life after being bitten by a “wolf-hybrid” kept as a family pet. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office reported that the infant was attacked at their home, leading to fatal injuries.
Upon receiving the 911 call, sheriff’s deputies, firefighters, and animal control officers rushed to the scene, but unfortunately, the baby did not survive the injuries sustained from the animal attack. The family was aware of the wolf ancestry in the dog, which is classified as a wolf-hybrid.
As a precautionary measure, the wolf-hybrid was euthanized at the scene and taken to the Alabama State Diagnostics Laboratory for further examination. The investigation is ongoing, and an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
Chelsea Mayor Tony Picklesimer expressed deep sadness over the tragic incident and extended heartfelt prayers and thoughts to the family and all those affected. He also emphasized the importance of responsible pet ownership, especially when it comes to exotic pets.
Our hearts go out to the family and the community of Chelsea during this difficult time. It serves as a reminder of the additional responsibilities that come with owning exotic pets, and the need to ensure the safety of not only our own families but also our neighbors.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family as they navigate through this devastating loss. Chelsea, a close-knit community, will undoubtedly come together to support one another during this challenging time.
