Fire Displaces Families and Injures Two in Schenectady
NEW YORK – A Thursday morning fire in the Mont Pleasant neighborhood of Schenectady displaced multiple families and injured two people, including one firefighter, city Fire Chief Don Mareno said.
Mareno described the injuries to the firefighter and one resident as minor and non-life-threatening.
The fire was reported shortly before 4:30 a.m. at 1223 8th Ave., Mareno said.
The building had three units and everyone made it out. The injured firefighter was treated at the scene and taken to Ellis Hospital, Mareno said.
The local Red Cross responded to assist the home’s residents.
Firefighters got the blaze under control in about 35 minutes, Mareno said.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
