NEW YORK – Federal ⁤Appeals Court Upholds New York Gun Laws

Following a landmark Supreme ‍Court ruling last⁣ year, a federal appeals court has ruled in favor of New York’s new gun laws, allowing the state to enforce bans on firearms in sensitive locations and maintain⁣ the requirement that handgun owners be ⁣of “good moral character.”

However,‌ the court also blocked some aspects of the new gun licensing rules, including the requirement for applicants to disclose their⁣ social media accounts. Additionally, the⁤ state can no longer enforce the law that made it a crime to carry a concealed gun onto private property without ‌the owner’s consent.

The legal battle over New York’s gun laws is expected to continue, with the case likely to reach the Supreme Court again. The court’s ⁤decision comes after New York’s old rules for obtaining a license⁢ to carry a ⁣handgun outside the home were struck down in 2022.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul hailed the decision as a victory, emphasizing the importance of the state’s concealed carry laws in‌ protecting public safety. Attorney General Letitia James also expressed support for the court’s decision, highlighting the ⁣need to⁤ keep guns ⁤out of‌ dangerous hands and away‍ from sensitive locations.

Despite facing⁤ legal challenges, New York’s‍ core gun laws⁤ remain in effect, ‌reflecting ⁢the state’s commitment‌ to prioritizing public safety.
