SCHENECTADY – Two young men have been arrested in connection to the tragic shooting of a 21-year-old Schenectady resident in the Hamilton Hill neighborhood.
Jevoun Drake, 18, of Schenectady and Jose Amey, 18, of Troy, were taken into custody on Wednesday afternoon.
Usman Pirzada was shot at around 8:49 p.m. on Tuesday. Police found him with a gunshot wound at the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Steuben Street. Despite being rushed to Albany Medical Center, he tragically passed away early Wednesday morning.
Drake has been charged with second-degree murder, first-degree robbery with a firearm, and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was arraigned on Wednesday and is currently being held at the Schenectady County Jail.
Amey, on the other hand, faces charges of first-degree robbery and is scheduled to be arraigned in county court on Thursday.
The Schenectady Police Department released a statement acknowledging the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies, including the New York State Police and the Troy Police Department, in making the arrests.
The successful outcome in making these arrests in such a relatively short time frame is due in large part to the immediate response of patrol, the extensive efforts of detectives, and the collaboration with partner law enforcement agencies.
