SCHENECTADY – Early Morning Fire Damages Apartment House
An early Friday fire damaged a four-unit apartment house on University Place in Schenectady, leading the Red Cross to assist seven occupants, Fire Chief Don Mareno said. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
According to Mareno, firefighters were called to the residence at 1029 University Place shortly after 2 a.m. Friday.
Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke coming from the second floor rear apartment and were able to contain the blaze to that apartment.
Thanks to their quick response, firefighters had the blaze under control in just 25 minutes, Mareno said.
The Red Cross was working with the seven occupants affected by the fire, providing them with assistance. The cause of the fire remained under investigation later Friday morning.
Uncaring: sucks for them #notmyproblem
Agree: That’s terrible news. I hope everyone affected by the fire is safe and gets the support they need.
