Kevin Smith Returns to the Bronx
Exciting news for New York Yankees fans as Kevin Smith, a native of East Greenbush and a graduate of Columbia High School, announced on Instagram that he is “headed home for 2024.” The Yankees have reportedly signed Smith to a one-year minor league deal with an invitation to Spring Training, as first reported by WNYT’s Rodger Wyland.
Smith, who spent three years at the University of Maryland, made his major league debut with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2017. He played 18 games for Toronto in 2021 before being traded to the Oakland Athletics. With a .173 batting average and eight home runs in 114 games, Smith has proven himself as a versatile player, having received time at multiple positions including second base, third base, shortstop, right field, and left field.
Smith’s Journey to the Majors
In 2023, Smith played 49 games with the Oakland Athletics and 42 at the Triple A level with Las Vegas. His impressive performance with Las Vegas, including a .324 batting average, 16 home runs, and 46 RBIs, has undoubtedly caught the attention of the Yankees’ management.
