SCHENECTADY — NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson to Deliver Speech at Union’s Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration
Don’t miss out on NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson’s inspiring speech at Union College’s Martin Luther King Jr. celebration. The event has been rescheduled to Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 5:30 p.m. in College Park Hall.
Originally scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 16 at Nott Memorial, the speech was postponed due to inclement weather, but now you have the chance to hear Johnson’s powerful message on “How Far We Have Come and Where We Need to Go.”
Johnson’s impact with the NAACP has been significant, including the launch of the Log Out Facebook Campaign, the Jamestown-to-Jamestown Partnership, and the We are Done Dying Campaign. These initiatives have brought attention to critical issues affecting African-American communities and the nation as a whole.
Described as a “longstanding member and leader of the NAACP,” Mr. Johnson has been instrumental in guiding the Association through a period of re-envisioning and reinvigoration, as stated on the NAACP’s website.
Johnson’s expertise in civil rights issues has led to appearances on numerous national TV news stations, and he has also served as an annual guest lecturer on social movements at Harvard Law School, according to a Union news release.
The talk is sponsored by the Office of Intercultural Affairs, the chief diversity officers, and the Capital Region Chamber of Commerce, making it a must-attend event for anyone interested in social justice and equality.
