SCHENECTADY – Shocking news out of Schenectady as a man was arrested for driving drunk with a child in the car earlier this month, according to New York State Police.
Burtil B. Bagot, 40, of Schenectady, was taken into custody on Jan. 11 and charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child, a felony under Leandra’s Law, police said.
Troopers stopped Bagot at about 9:45 p.m. Jan. 11 on Erie Boulevard in Schenectady for a vehicle and traffic law violation, police said.
Upon further investigation, troopers discovered that a child under the age of 16 was in the vehicle and concluded that Bagot was intoxicated, police said.
Adding to the severity of the situation, Bagot was uncooperative and resisted arrest while being taken into custody, police said. He later refused to provide a sample to determine the alcohol content of his blood, police said.
As a result, he was also charged with obstructing governmental administration and endangering the welfare of a child, police said.
The child was thankfully turned over to a family member, police said.
This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence and the importance of keeping our roads safe for everyone, especially our children.
Disagree: This is absolutely unacceptable and reckless. The safety and well-being of children should always be our top priority.
This is a disturbing incident highlighting the grave consequences of drunk driving. The welfare of innocent lives, especially children, should never be compromised.
