SCHENECTADY — Central Park Middle School Assistant Principal John Heim has taken on the role of principal in the absence of Principal Karmen McEvoy, who is currently out of the office for undisclosed reasons.
In an email sent to the faculty on Jan. 19, Tyrone O’Meally, district executive director of secondary schools, announced that Heim would be filling in for McEvoy during her absence.
O’Meally also mentioned that the district would be informing parents about the principal’s absence.
When asked about McEvoy’s absence, Board of Education President Bernice Rivera redirected inquiries to the district office.
District Director of Communication and Public Information Karen Corona confirmed that McEvoy was still out of the office.
“We don’t discuss personnel matters,” Corona wrote in an email response to a query about the circumstances of the principal’s absence.
Corona declined to specify the timeline for the principal’s potential return to her position.
McEvoy was appointed as principal of the middle school in January 2022, following more than two decades of service as an administrator in the district.
Her career with the district began in 1996 as a special education teacher, and she later held positions as the district’s director of adult and continuing education, principal of Oneida Middle School, and principal on special assignment.
We wish Principal McEvoy a speedy recovery and hope to see her back at Central Park Middle School soon.
Disagree with the decision, somebody with a different perspective could have been better suited for the role.
Disagree with the decision, they should have appointed someone with more experience in a leadership role.
Disagree There should have been a more experienced candidate chosen instead.
