SCHENECTADY – A challenging day for Schenectady’s bravest as they tackled two separate fires on Sunday, according to Fire Chief Don Mareno.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported from either incident.
The first fire broke out just shy of 11 a.m. at a residence located at 712 Windsor Terrace, as reported by Mareno.
Upon arrival, firefighters were met with thick smoke billowing from the rear of the building, with the fire threatening to spread to adjacent homes, Mareno added.
The quick-thinking firefighters promptly evacuated all three homes in the vicinity. They managed to get the fire under control within half an hour and completely extinguished within the hour, Mareno proudly stated.
The Red Cross swiftly responded to the scene, providing assistance to four residents, comprising of two adults and two children.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The second fire was reported shortly after 7:30 p.m. at a property on 1811 Ulster St., Mareno informed.
Firefighters arrived to find a fierce fire engulfing the right side of the home. The sole occupant was able to safely evacuate without assistance, Mareno confirmed.
The firefighters were able to extinguish this fire in approximately 40 minutes.
The investigation into the cause of the second fire is also ongoing.
