Are you tired of indoor golf simulators and yearning for a real outdoor golf experience? Well, you’re in luck! This Saturday, an exciting outdoor golf tournament is set to take place.
The third edition of the Tom Taylor Memorial Golf Tournament is scheduled at the Sport Island Pub in Northville. This tournament is a tribute to Tom Taylor, the pub’s much-loved chef who tragically passed away on April 22, 2021, due to Lupus. Taylor was the brain behind this unique tournament, designed to embrace the chilly February weather of northern Fulton County.
The tournament features a single hole, less than 100 yards away, located on the frozen part of the property. Each participant gets seven shots. The hole is divided into point zones of 1, 3, 5, and 10, with a hole-in-one fetching a whopping 50 points. The top three players with the highest scores will be awarded cash prizes, the amount of which will be determined by the number of entries.
The entry fee is set at $25, which includes a buffet. Registration kicks off at 11 a.m., followed by the first tee-off at noon. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Amsterdam High School bowling team, a team that Taylor was a part of and well-known within the bowling community.
“It’s a truly enjoyable experience,” said Gaetano Lanzi, a proprietor of Sport Island Pub, “and it offers something different from the usual.”
Lanzi mentioned that golfers will be hitting off a mat. He also noted that the tournament was previously held at the family’s Lakeside Tavern nearby, but due to the lack of snow this winter, they had to close it as it primarily catered to snowmobile-related business.
“We’re thrilled to host this event and can’t wait for it to start,” Lanzi added.
