COLONIE — On Tuesday, Jeffrey Madden made public his intention to run for a seat in one of the Capital Region’s most suburban Assembly districts, following two years of service in elected office.
As a town councilman of Colonie, Madden is the first to step forward this year to challenge Democratic Assemblyman Phil Steck, a fellow resident of the expansive Albany County town.
“Motivated by the trajectory of our state in recent years, I felt compelled to step up and contribute to the solution, championing practical policies in our state government,” Madden expressed in a statement.
Since the age of 23, Madden, a Republican candidate, has successfully managed several businesses, including All Sports Café and Madden’s restaurant. He has also dedicated his time to coaching local youth football, baseball, and lacrosse teams.
In the 2021 elections, Madden received the most votes among all town board candidates. This reflects the politically balanced nature of the town, which resulted in a board composed of an equal number of Democrats and Republicans.
“This campaign transcends partisan politics. It’s about the urgent need to disrupt the status quo in New York, which has led to increased crime rates, taxes, and an ongoing migrant crisis that remains unresolved, with no substantial solutions in sight,” Madden stated.
The 110th Assembly District, which Madden is vying for, encompasses his hometown and Niskayuna, as well as portions of Guilderland and Schenectady. Steck, a former Albany County legislator, has been representing a large part of this region since 2013.
This marks the second state legislature race announced in the Capital Region involving two candidates from the same town. In November, Rotterdam Town Board member Joseph Mastroianni, a registered Conservative, declared his intention to run against Democratic Assemblymember Angelo Santabarbara for the second time.
Agree – Jeff Madden is a strong candidate who will bring fresh ideas to the Assembly. Good luck to both candidates in the upcoming election!
Disagree – Phil Steck has been a dedicated public servant and deserves to be re-elected. #TeamSteck
Disagree – Phil Steck has proven himself as a dedicated public servant and deserves another term in office.
