WARREN COUNTY -‌ Additional charges of grand larceny have been leveled against ‍the proprietor of⁤ a Scotia-based fencing company, who was previously indicted on similar charges in Glenville, according‍ to⁢ a statement from the New York State Police on Tuesday.

James⁢ S. Butler, a 31-year-old resident of Schenectady, was slapped with two counts of third-degree grand larceny, a serious felony, last Friday. Butler is the sole owner and operator of the Scotia fencing company, Trust a Fence.

The new charges‌ stem from allegations that‍ Butler ⁤defrauded a resident of Saratoga County and another‍ from Warren County during the summer and fall of 2023, as per ⁣the police report.

Butler‍ is alleged to have swindled over $15,000, funds that were intended as payment for contracted fence installations. The police report ⁤states that Butler never commenced the contracted work and failed to refund the victims’ money.

Following his arraignment in Warren County, Butler ⁢was released with instructions to return to court at a later‍ date.

In a previous case, Butler faced similar charges of third-degree grand ⁢larceny, where he‌ was⁢ accused of pilfering over $7,000 from a homeowner in West ‌Glenville, as reported by the local police.

Glenville police also revealed that Butler is currently under investigation by the Saratoga⁤ County⁤ Sheriff’s Office, in addition to police departments in Scotia, Niskayuna,⁣ Colonie, and Guilderland.

The police are encouraging any other ‌potential victims to step forward.

In a recent interview, Butler described the entire situation as a⁤ colossal misunderstanding linked to ⁣a bankruptcy filing last month. He‍ vehemently denied any malicious intent or ‍deliberate attempts to cause harm.

According to court documents related to⁢ his bankruptcy ⁤case, Butler owes over $180,000 to more than 50 individuals and businesses.
