SCHENECTADY — The Schenectady City School District is on the verge of unveiling its new superintendent. The school board, during its Wednesday night meeting, revealed that the chosen candidate is an internal hire.
Board of Education President Bernice Rivera shared during the meeting that the two-month-long search to fill the shoes of outgoing Superintendent Anibal Soler Jr. is nearing its end, with the board having completed its interview process.
According to Rivera, the board, after extensive internal deliberations and considering community input, decided to concentrate on an internal superintendent search. The interview process was thus exclusively conducted with current district employees.
The identity of the new hire is expected to be disclosed on the upcoming Wednesday, March 6, coinciding with the school board’s next full meeting scheduled for the same evening.
Soler, who tendered his resignation on Jan. 10 to assume the superintendent’s role at Yonkers Public Schools, is slated to depart the Schenectady district on April 30. He expressed his commitment to facilitating a smooth transition for his successor during Wednesday’s meeting.
While Soler offered guidance to the school board during the search, he clarified that he did not partake in the interview process.
