CLIFTON PARK — The NYSPHSAA Class B subregional contest at Shenendehowa on Tuesday night was dominated by⁤ Stillwater, as they faced off against Northeastern Clinton.

Stillwater set the ‍tone early, scoring⁤ an impressive 34 points in the ⁢first quarter and establishing a commanding 40-3 ‌lead ⁤against the Section 7 representative.

They ultimately secured a⁣ 71-24 victory, advancing to the regional championship round of the ⁤state playoffs this coming Saturday.

“This team‍ has put in the effort,” expressed Stillwater coach⁤ Bruce Lilac. “They were disappointed with last year’s sectional‍ final loss, feeling they had the potential to be‌ state finalists. We often remind them of that, and they⁤ understand what it takes ⁣to⁢ succeed.”

Eight players contributed to Stillwater’s scoring, with ⁢Jaxon Mueller leading the pack with 17 points. Kaelan Leak and Carter Wichelns each added 15 points, while Lukas Lilac contributed 13.

“I didn’t‌ anticipate such a significant lead,” admitted Wichelns. “Our‍ focus is on executing⁤ our plays to the best of our ability.”

“I am confident that if⁣ we apply what we learn in⁣ practice, we will⁢ perform well,” he added. “The ‍offense‌ will follow.”

With this victory, Stillwater’s record improves to 24-1. They⁣ will face ⁣Section 10’s Canton (21-3 ⁤overall) on Saturday at 2:45 p.m. at SUNY Potsdam.

For Coach Lilac, ⁢Tuesday’s game was ⁢a chance to‌ see every player contribute in a significant match.

“It’s always rewarding,” Lilac said. “There’s no‍ real benefit in scoring⁤ 100 points against a team. We did‍ it once and I wasn’t pleased. It’s ⁤important that⁢ all players, regardless ‍of their role, get a chance to participate in the game as ⁤they all put in the hard‍ work during practice.”
