Weather Emerges as the Winner at Local Racetracks: A Racing Update


Mother Nature has claimed her⁣ first win ⁢of the season, as ⁤torrential⁣ rains led⁢ to the delay of Albany-Saratoga’s season opener, as⁤ well as ⁢the ‌open practice sessions scheduled at Fonda‍ and⁣ Utica-Rome Speedways ‍and the Lebanon ‌Valley Kart ⁢Track.

The 59th Season-opener at Albany-Saratoga Speedway, originally scheduled for‍ last Friday, has been rescheduled for this coming Friday.

Utica-Rome Speedway had planned to host an open practice Friday night, but due to adverse weather conditions and waterlogged grounds, the management decided to ⁤postpone ⁤the practice ‍session to Tuesday night. ⁢Gates⁣ will open at 5 ⁣p.m. ‍with cars‍ taking to the ​track⁣ from 6:30-9:30 p.m.

Admission to the⁢ pit ⁢is $35, while entry to the grandstand ⁢is⁢ free of charge.

The open practice session ⁤at Fonda Speedway, initially set for ⁣Saturday, has been rescheduled for Wednesday night.

This will be the first time cars will be on the racing surface after it underwent a ⁢complete resurfacing with ⁣fresh clay during the offseason. The track crew has been diligently working on ‌the surface ‌and ⁣removing stones found in​ a couple⁤ of truckloads.

Gates will open⁤ at 4:30 p.m. with ​cars taking to the track from‌ 6-9 p.m.

Admission to the ⁣pit is $35, while entry​ to the grandstand⁤ is free of charge.

Utica-Rome Speedway is set to kick off its season on Friday with all weekly divisions in action ‍and⁣ featuring the $6,800-to-win ‘Honoring Alex’ for modifieds.

Fonda Speedway is set to commence its‌ 73rd consecutive season ⁢Saturday​ with⁤ the running ‌of‌ the‌ ‘Jumpin’ ‌Jack⁤ Johnson Memorial,⁣ a 40-lap, ⁢$12,000-to-win main event for the ​modifieds highlighting the race program.

The practice at the Lebanon‍ Valley Kart Track was also a ⁢victim of the inclement weather ​and has been rescheduled for Saturday.

Lebanon ⁣Valley Speedway will host an open practice session Saturday ahead of its 72nd season opener on⁤ April 27.

Glen​ Ridge ⁣Motorsports ‌Park has scheduled an open practice ‌for April 27 ahead of its May 5 opening night.

Devil’s Bowl‌ Speedway has two⁢ practice sessions planned for‌ this⁤ Saturday and April‍ 27 ahead of its 58th season opener⁣ on May ⁣4, featuring the 32-lap, $3,200-to-win “Matty B” Matt Bilodeau Memorial for sportsman⁣ modifieds.


Stewart Friesen qualified third for the ⁢NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series SpeedyCash.com‍ 250 at Texas Motor Speedway ​Friday in⁤ a Chili’s Grill and Bar-sponsored truck with a unique graphic.

Friesen‍ finished the ⁣opening stage in fifth before dropping⁣ back in the second stage.‍ He finished⁤ in 13th ⁢after ⁤a late-race spin ‍to‍ avoid⁤ an accident in the final ⁣stage.
