Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Makes a Comeback to Beat Ballston Spa 8-5 in Section 2 Softball


BALLSTON SPA — Despite a rocky start on Thursday afternoon, the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake softball team refused to let their spirits wane.

The‌ Spartans ⁣staged a ‌remarkable rally, scoring‌ seven unanswered runs in the fifth and sixth ⁣innings, to clinch an 8-5 Suburban Council victory against their local rivals, Ballston Spa.

“We have the​ confidence that we can bounce back and defeat any⁣ team. When we unite, we are an unstoppable force,” expressed ‍Burnt Hills’​ Addisyn Knapik. “We⁢ always have a shot ⁢at​ winning every time ‍we ⁤step onto the ‌field,⁣ but I believe⁤ we ‌just ⁢needed to​ discover that ‌inner strength, and​ once we⁤ did, there was no turning ‌back.”

Ballston Spa had a 5-1 lead going⁢ into the fifth inning, but that’s when Burnt Hills’ ‍offense ⁣ignited. The Spartans ⁤narrowed the gap to one run, 5-4, thanks to ‌a two-run single from Carli Ewing, who later scored ​on a‍ passed ⁢ball.

The Spartans completed their stunning comeback with four runs in⁢ the‍ top ​of the sixth, with Knapik⁢ driving in the ⁢tying and go-ahead runs ​with a ⁤two-run ‍single. Burnt Hills extended its lead to ​8-5 following a two-run double from‌ Bailey Dinon.

“It felt like⁤ a total turnaround. Everything started falling into ​place for us, and we were all so pumped,⁢ knowing we were on⁤ the verge of‌ winning the‍ game,” ​Knapik said, reflecting on her crucial hit. “I think‍ it’s not just about the hit, but the surge of energy it brings, that’s what makes ⁤it so thrilling.”

Ewing had a stellar game, going 3 for 4 ‌with two RBIs, while Knapik was 2 for 4⁢ with two RBIs. Lilly Morse also made a significant contribution, hitting a triple and​ scoring twice.

Ava Yahoudy pitched 4 2-3 innings in relief⁤ for the Spartans, allowing only ⁤two‍ unearned runs on two hits and one walk, and ⁢striking ‍out four.

For Ballston ‍Spa, Livia Wiltsie hit a⁤ two-run home run and pitched 1 2-3 innings ⁢of scoreless relief. ‍Natalia Guthrie went 2 for 4 with a double, while ⁣Madelyn Perrone ⁣and Jadyn‌ Fives ⁣also hit doubles.

With ‍this victory,⁤ the Spartans improve their league record to 8-1 and ‌their​ overall⁢ record to 9-1. The‍ Scotties, on the‍ other hand, drop to 5-4 in the Suburban⁤ Council ⁣and 9-5 overall.
