SCHENECTADY — In a recent development, two individuals have been apprehended in relation to the incident and subsequent search that took place on Crane Street this Tuesday, as per the police reports.
The incident in question involved a potential firearm discharge, a shovel being utilized as a weapon, and a man breaking into a residence in an effort to evade the police, as stated by the authorities.
It has been reported that a young child was also present during at least a portion of the incident, as per the police.
Fortunately, no injuries have been reported in the incident.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Wendell K. Boone, 39, and Catoria A. Pittman, 35, both residents of Schenectady, according to the police.
Boone is facing charges that include first-degree burglary and first-degree criminal use of a firearm, among five total felonies. Pittman, on the other hand, is facing one felony count of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and two misdemeanors.
The incident was reported to have started just after 1 p.m. on Tuesday when officers were called to the 900 block of Crane Street following a report of a physical altercation between a man and a woman, as per the police.
The allegations included a gun being brandished — and possibly discharged, a shovel being used as a weapon, and a baby being present at the scene, as per the police.
Officers initiated a search for the suspects and located Pittman at approximately 2:31 p.m. She was detained and transported to the police headquarters while the search for the man continued, as per the police.
Police reports indicate that the child was present during the initial incident. The child’s whereabouts during the continuation of the incident were not specified in the release, but the police confirmed on Wednesday that the child is safe.
Officers soon discovered that the man had entered a neighboring apartment through a window in an attempt to escape, as per the police.
The search operation continued until about 9:41 p.m., when members of the department’s Special Operations Squad located the man, identified as Boone, lying in an area between buildings, as per the police.
Boone was apprehended without any further incidents, as per the police. A loaded Ruger handgun was also discovered during the search operation.
Both Pittman and Boone are known to each other and share a 2-year-old child — the child who was present during the incident, as per the police.
Boone is also facing felony charges of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, first-degree reckless endangerment, and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. He is also facing misdemeanor charges of menacing, child endangerment, and criminal mischief.
Pittman is also facing misdemeanor charges of child endangerment and menacing.
The city police were assisted by the department’s Drone Unit, New York State Police, Schenectady Street Crimes Task Force, Schenectady County Sheriff’s Office, and the Niskayuna Police Department in the operation.
