BURNT HILLS — A decade after her graduation from Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School, Morgan (Burchhardt) Farnan finds herself back in⁤ familiar territory.

Last week, Farnan, a proud⁢ 2014 alumna of Burnt Hills, was‌ officially appointed as the new head coach for the Spartans’ girls’ varsity⁢ soccer‍ team.

“Returning to my old stomping grounds to do what I love is incredibly exciting,” Farnan expressed in a phone conversation. “Coaching ‍is‍ a passion of‌ mine because it⁣ allows me ‌to positively influence young women, not just in⁢ soccer or sports, but also in life. After ⁢all, ‌sports can only take you ⁤so far.

“My own experiences and coaches in athletics have played a ‌significant role in shaping ‍who I am today.”

Farnan steps into the shoes of Marisah Boucher, a ⁢former member of The College of Saint Rose’s NCAA Division II national championship team ⁤in 2011.

As Burnt Hills’ all-time⁤ leading goal-scorer,‌ Farnan⁢ herself is a Saint Rose ⁣alumna, having played in two national semifinal games in 2014 and 2019. She joined the Golden Knights’ coaching staff in 2021, a year when Saint Rose was the national runner-up.

Farnan’s⁤ coaching journey began⁢ during her tenure‌ as a player with the Golden Knights.⁣ While recuperating⁣ from an injury, she reconnected with some of her former youth coaches.

“During my recovery from two ACL surgeries, I reconnected with my⁣ coaches from the Albany Alleycats,⁤ and that’s when I discovered my love⁤ for coaching,” Farnan shared.⁢ “I was later added to the coaching staff at Saint Rose, ‌but I‍ always knew ⁣that if a⁣ position at Burnt Hills became available at ⁣the right ⁤time,⁢ I would jump‍ at the chance.”

After three seasons of coaching at the college level, the closure of Saint Rose led Farnan ⁢to seek new ⁢opportunities, and ‌she found one ‍right in her hometown.

At the⁤ Board of Education meeting last Wednesday, Farnan was officially appointed as ⁤the head coach for the fall⁤ 2024 season, with Megan Bachand joining her ⁢as the varsity assistant ⁢coach.
