NEW YORK (WKBW)⁢ —‍ The Empire State ⁣has taken a leap into the digital age with the introduction of the “New‍ York Mobile ID” app.

This innovative app, as described⁣ by the⁢ state, is a “robustly secure digital counterpart of a state-issued driver license, learner permit or ID, accessible right on your smartphone.”

The state emphasizes that this voluntary product⁤ was meticulously crafted‍ keeping in mind the convenience ⁣and ⁤security needs of New Yorkers.‌ It is readily available for download by both IOS⁤ and Android ‌users.

“We are excited to offer New Yorkers the opportunity to utilize this advanced technology which not only provides convenience but also enhances security for Mobile ID users and ⁤those who accept it. New Yorkers will now be able to swiftly⁢ display their IDs, while also ⁤having control over the personal information they choose to share.”

– Governor Kathy Hochul

In collaboration with the TSA, the New York Mobile ID will be⁣ recognized at TSA security checkpoints at approximately 30 participating airports.

Here’s a simple guide on how to get your New York Mobile ID:

  1. Start by downloading the New York MiD app from the App Store or‍ Google Play.
  2. Register the phone number of the⁣ device where the Mobile ID will be stored. To ensure identity protection, an individual’s Mobile ID ‌can only be active ⁤on one device at a time.
  3. Use your phone’s camera⁢ to take a picture of the‍ front and back of your physical ID (driver license, non-driver ID, or⁢ Learner Permit).
  4. Take ‍a‍ selfie. The‌ app will cross-verify your photo and ID against ⁢the⁤ information on file with the ⁤DMV to‌ confirm your identity.
  5. Once your ⁢information is verified, your MiD is activated and ready to use wherever it is accepted.

“The New York MiD‍ is⁤ intended to complement a physical ID, and not all businesses or stakeholders will initially accept mobile IDs, so New Yorkers should continue ⁢to carry their ⁣physical driver’s license or ID,” the state advised.
