Welcome to ‍our regular feature, ‘A Taste of the Town’, where⁢ we spotlight ‌local food festivals, unique culinary events, menu updates, restaurant news and more. Let’s dive⁤ into the delicious details.

SCHENECTADY —⁣ Exciting news for food lovers! A new taqueria, named Tacos ⁣& Margaritas Cantina, is set ⁤to open its doors on⁤ Upper Union Street this ‌fall. The location, 1671 Union⁢ St., was previously home to Simon’s.

“We’re introducing an open kitchen-style ‌taqueria, where customers can watch their tortillas being freshly made right in front of their eyes,” shared owner Luis Belman, a Schenectady resident. “You’ll witness your tortilla⁣ being made, pressed, and cooked, along with your choice of ‌meat.”

This will be Belman’s first ⁣venture into restaurant ownership, although he has ‍been involved‍ in the industry from a young age.

“Owning my own restaurant has always been a dream of mine,” Belman confessed.

Belman began ‍leasing the Union Street space⁢ a few months ago⁤ and is currently in the process of renovating it to include an open kitchen and bar.

“I envision it as a trendy spot where everyone can come in, enjoy some tacos, sit at the bar, have a drink… a place where you can‍ grab something quick and delicious,” Belman said.

The menu will primarily feature specialty tacos, made with the‍ restaurant’s⁣ own tortillas.

“The fact⁢ that we’re making our own dough already sets us apart. Most restaurants ⁣in the area use frozen tortillas that they ‍simply heat up,” Belman pointed out.

His goal ‍is to provide customers with the experience of an authentic taqueria, similar to what⁤ one might find in Mexico.

“This is ‍a fresh concept that hasn’t been explored much in the Capital Region,” ⁣Belman said. “Yes, there are other Mexican restaurants, but none with this style of concept, an actual ⁣taqueria ‍where you can watch your tacos being‌ made, interact with the chef, see ⁣the dough‌ being pressed and cooked, and ⁣the meat being sliced right before your eyes.”

Belman is aiming for a fall ⁤opening and plans⁣ to hire around 25 staff members.

The‍ restaurant will ‍join two other recent additions to Union Street,‌ including Chapli & Platters at 1628 Union St. and Mr. & Mrs. Wing⁤ at 1715 Union St.

  1. Disagree – I don’t think Union Street needs another taco and margarita place, there are already plenty in the area.

  2. Undeniably believe that which you stated. Your favorite reason seemed to be on the internet the simplest thing to be aware of. I say to you, I certainly get annoyed while people consider worries that they plainly don’t know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and defined out the whole thing without having side-effects , people can take a signal. Will likely be back to get more. Thanks

  3. You actually make it appear really easy with your presentation however I find this topic to be really one thing which I think I would never understand. It kind of feels too complicated and very huge for me. I’m having a look ahead in your next publish, I¦ll try to get the grasp of it!
