WASHINGTON ⁣— On Monday, U.S. intelligence authorities ‌announced that Iran is behind the cyber attack on Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. This marks the first time the ⁣U.S. government has officially attributed ⁢responsibility for a cyber breach that the Republican candidate had previously associated with ‍Tehran.

According to the FBI and other federal agencies, Iran views this year’s presidential election ‌as particularly significant. They are resolved to meddle in American politics through hacking operations and‍ other activities, ‌with the aim of “fanning the flames of discord and undermining faith in our democratic institutions.”

“During this election cycle, we have noticed a surge in Iranian activity,‌ particularly involving operations aimed at influencing the American public and cyber operations targeting⁣ Presidential campaigns,” stated a joint announcement from the FBI, the Office of the Director of National ⁢Intelligence, and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.

The statement further revealed that the Iranian⁤ hackers have “attempted to infiltrate individuals who have⁤ direct access to the Presidential campaigns of both political parties.” The⁣ FBI is currently investigating attempts to breach the campaign of Democrat Kamala Harris.
