Hundreds of Cookies Imported and Resold by Australian Crumbl Enthusiasts

SYDNEY​ — Imagine being so passionate about cookies that you’d travel⁣ over⁤ 8,000 miles to bring them to your home country. That’s exactly what happened when a group of cookie enthusiasts from Australia held a pop-up shop for Crumbl Cookies,‌ a popular brand based in Utah, USA.

The group, who run the TikTok account @CrumblSydney, ⁣announced the pop-up shop in ‍late September. They posted several videos promoting the event, creating a buzz among Australian cookie lovers.

On the day of the event, hundreds of Australians queued up to sample the‍ much-anticipated cookies. The cookies, priced at $17.50 AUD (approximately $12 ⁢USD), came in a variety of ⁣flavors including milk chocolate ⁤chip, pink sugar, birthday Oreo, peanut butter Snickers, and caramel shortbread ‌Twix.

A video posted on the ‌day⁣ showed a long line ⁤of⁣ eager⁤ customers stretching down the block. However, by Tuesday afternoon, all⁣ videos related to the event had⁤ been removed.

Despite⁣ the excitement, some Australians expressed disappointment, claiming the pop-up ⁤was “fake” ‌as ​it was not officially affiliated with⁤ Crumbl ⁢Cookies. In response, ⁢numerous videos were posted on TikTok, ranging from⁢ cookie reviews to debates about the legality of the event, and⁢ even some praising the initiative of the⁢ organizers.

The @CrumblSydney account ‍bio ⁣clearly​ states, “Not ‌endorsed by Crumbl, just fans importing!” They also shared a document to⁣ “address the drama surrounding the event”, explaining their ‌journey to bring the beloved cookies to Australia.

The statement read, “We ⁢never‍ claimed to be ⁢an official Crumbl ⁣store. This was clearly stated in the bio and our comments. Our goal was to bring the ‌authentic Crumbl ⁢cookies to Australia by importing the cookies directly from the U.S.A.” The organizers also clarified that they did not use Crumbl’s trademarks in their videos.

According to the ⁤statement, the organizers traveled to the‌ U.S. to purchase the cookies in their original packaging and then imported them to ⁣Australia. Due to flight delays, the cookies⁢ were a few ‍days old by the time they were sold at the pop-up.

Screenshots ⁤reveal that‍ the group spent⁢ over $3,660⁣ on cookies from ‌Crumbl. Including ⁤flights, ​duties, taxes, customs brokering, and staffing for the event, the total cost came to around $7,000. “This event was never⁣ about profit. We aimed to ⁣bring the cookies to‍ Crumbl ‌fans. With all these expenses, we ‍set the prices without an intention ‌of making a large profit,” the statement explained.

The group defended their actions, stating that the act⁢ of ⁢importing and reselling, known as parallel imports, is‍ legal. “We followed all legal procedures,‍ declaring the⁢ cookies as commercial goods and obtaining the necessary approvals ​from Australian customs,” they said, providing ⁣a photo of the customs entry ‍for the cookies that showed the goods were cleared by Biosecurity Control.

Following the event, Crumbl co-founder Sawyer Hemsley commented on a CrumblSydney video, stating that ‍”it ‌appears we‌ need to ⁣expedite⁣ our visit to Australia. Please note, this pop-up ​is in no way affiliated with Crumbl Cookies.”

In ⁤a statement⁤ to KSL.com, Crumbl Cookies said:​ “While the pop-up in Australia​ was ‌not sponsored by Crumbl, we love seeing excitement for Crumbl⁤ around the world. Currently, there are Crumbl locations in​ all 50 states ⁢in the‌ U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. We look forward ⁢to expanding to other countries in the future.”

As ‍of Wednesday afternoon, CrumblSydney had‌ not responded to KSL.com ‍for comment.
