For instance, I managed to⁤ book a round-trip flight ‌to Tokyo from Los Angeles for half ⁢the price it would have cost from Salt Lake City, and then found a budget-friendly flight to Los Angeles. If you decide to use this‌ strategy, ensure you have ample⁢ time⁢ between flights to ​account for any potential delays.

2. Invest ⁤in a Suica card: These prepaid cards can be used​ for trains, buses, meals, shopping, and more. Simply add the ⁤card to your phone, and you’re good to⁣ go. I regret not getting a Suica card during​ my trip, as it would have made things much more⁣ convenient.

3. Carry a coin purse. Despite the convenience of​ Suica cards, many places in Japan still operate on a cash-only basis. As such, you’ll likely accumulate a fair ⁢amount of change throughout the day. A coin purse ⁤or similar item can help you manage these coins and ensure they’re put to good use, ​such as paying ⁤for bus fares.

4. Don’t overlook ‍the 7-Eleven. These ubiquitous convenience stores are a great place ⁣to withdraw cash when ‍needed. Plus, they ‌offer a variety of tasty and ​affordable food options. I frequently visited 7-Eleven for snacks and even full meals, with my favorite item being the onigiri — a rice ball filled with salmon or other tasty fillings.

5. Keep a garbage bag on hand. Public trash cans are ⁣a rare sight in Tokyo, so it’s⁢ a good idea ‌to carry a bag to collect any waste until you find a ‍suitable disposal spot.

9. Rent a portable Wi-Fi router. With all the exploring you’ll be doing, a​ reliable internet connection‍ is essential. For a small daily fee, you can rent a router that fits‍ in your‍ backpack or pocket. Not only will ⁤this allow you to share your experiences⁤ on​ social media,⁣ but it⁣ will also ⁤keep you connected to essential apps for navigation and translation.

10. Take in the view from⁣ Tokyo SKYTREE. Standing taller than⁢ six stacked football fields, Tokyo ⁣SKYTREE offers breathtaking views of the city. Seeing Tokyo’s various​ districts and landmarks from this⁢ vantage point helped me navigate the city more effectively.
