WASHINGTON‌ —⁤ In a surprising move, President-elect Donald‌ Trump announced on Tuesday that Elon Musk and former Republican presidential ‌candidate Vivek Ramaswamy have been appointed to spearhead a new Department of Government Efficiency. This decision ⁣is seen as a nod to two of Trump’s most prominent supporters from the business world.

Trump expressed his⁣ confidence that Musk and Ramaswamy “will lay the groundwork ‍for my Administration⁣ to dismantle Government Bureaucracy, trim unnecessary regulations, eliminate ⁢wasteful spending, and reorganize ‍Federal Agencies,” ⁤in a public statement.

He further elaborated that the newly formed department “will offer advice and guidance from a non-governmental⁣ perspective,” indicating that it would function independently⁣ of the government’s traditional structure.

Despite this, ‍the department is‌ expected to collaborate‌ closely ‍with the White House and the Office of Management & Budget⁣ to “initiate large scale structural‌ reform, and introduce an entrepreneurial approach” ⁢to ⁣government operations, a concept that is unprecedented.

Trump anticipates the completion of their⁣ work by July ⁢4, ‍2026, presenting it as a “gift” to the nation on the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Elon Musk’s Role

Musk, who is currently the world’s wealthiest individual according to Forbes, is poised to gain significantly from Trump’s victory. The billionaire entrepreneur is expected ⁤to leverage his influence to benefit his companies and secure favorable government policies.

Musk has been ‌a vocal supporter of Trump’s⁢ presidential campaign, contributing millions ⁢of‌ dollars ⁣and making public appearances alongside him. Trump had previously hinted at offering Musk a ‍role in ⁢his administration to promote government efficiency.

Musk’s extensive connections to Washington and his⁣ portfolio of companies, including electric car manufacturer Tesla, social media platform X, and aerospace manufacturer SpaceX, make him a formidable figure in this new role.

“This will send shockwaves through the system,⁤ and ‍anyone involved in government waste, which is ⁤a lot of‌ people!” Musk said, as quoted in⁣ Trump’s statement. The statement also referred to the ‌new government initiative as⁢ potentially “The Manhattan Project” of our time, drawing parallels with the ⁣U.S. project that developed the atomic ‍bomb and helped end World War Two.

Vivek Ramaswamy’s Role

Ramaswamy, a⁤ pharmaceutical company founder who once ran against Trump⁢ for ⁢the Republican presidential nomination, later became a staunch supporter of the former president after withdrawing ⁢from ⁤the race.

“We will not go‍ gently, @elonmusk,” Ramaswamy posted on X.

Musk shared Trump’s announcement on‍ his X account, adding comments such as “The merch will be (fire),” using⁣ three fire emojis, and “People have‌ no idea how much this will move the needle!”

He also posted: ⁣”Threat to democracy? Nope, threat to BUREAUCRACY!!!”

Interestingly, the acronym‌ of ‌the new department — DOGE — coincides with the name of the cryptocurrency⁣ dogecoin that Musk frequently promotes.
