Friday evening fire and explosion in Schenectady results in one fatality

SCHENECTADY – A tragic incident unfolded on ‌Friday ‍evening as a person was ⁤pulled from a house fire and explosion, only to ⁤succumb to their injuries, ⁤as confirmed by city ⁢fire‌ officials on Saturday.

The identity of the victim ⁤remains undisclosed as of Saturday, as ​officials are still ‍in the ‍process of notifying the family.

Fire Chief Donald Mareno ⁤of Schenectady stated that further details are unlikely to be shared⁣ until the autopsy of the victim is conducted on Monday.

The ⁣cause of the⁢ fire ​is still under investigation as ‌of Saturday.

Firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 15 Brown ‌St. around 7:02 p.m. Friday, responding to a fire that had broken‌ out on the first floor of the two-family ‌property.

While the firefighters were battling the blaze, ⁢an ⁢explosion⁢ occurred within the home, as reported by ​Mareno.

Fortunately, no other individuals were present in the house at the time of the incident, Mareno added.

The firefighting team received assistance ⁢from the Schenectady Police ⁣Department, Mohawk ‍Ambulance, and National Grid, ⁢and collaborated closely with the Unified Communications Center.

The command staff assumed control of the situation, initiated search and rescue operations,​ and implemented fire control procedures.

It⁢ took‌ the team approximately 40 ⁣minutes to bring the fire under control.
