SCHENECTADY — Get ready for a unique theatrical experience as the Mop & Bucket Company, a renowned improv group based in Schenectady, is set to present a limited series of their highly praised long-form improv show, “Spontaneous Broadway”, starting this Saturday.
Imagine being a part of the creative process of a Broadway show! The show invites audience members to step into the shoes of “deep-pocketed investors” in a backer’s showcase for a fictional Broadway producer. This interactive experience unfolds in two exciting acts.
In the first act, audience members are encouraged to suggest song titles. The talented improvisers from the Mop & Bucket Company then spontaneously burst into an original musical number from a show that doesn’t yet exist. The audience gets to vote for their favorite creation.
The second act showcases the improvisers’ creativity as they transform the chosen song into the foundation for a brand-new, never-seen-before musical. This includes a full storyline, costumes, props, dances, set pieces, and even more songs, all created on the spot.
Mark your calendars for the performances scheduled for this Saturday, as well as May 16, May 30, and June 6. Tickets are priced at $19.
“Spontaneous Broadway” is a brainchild of Kat Koppett, a 25-year improv veteran, in collaboration with Freestyle Rep in New York City. Koppett’s “Spontaneous Broadway” has gained global recognition and is now performed by acting teams worldwide.
Established in 1995 as the Mop & Bucket Company, Mopco Improv Theatre is the only dedicated improv theater in the region. Nestled in a beautifully restored firehouse in Schenectady’s Stockade District, Mopco offers regular live performances, classes for all skill levels, and special events.
