JOHNSTOWN – The Johnstown baseball team concluded their Western Athletic Conference season on a high note, securing a 5-0 triumph against Mayfield. The game took place on Monday at the Johnstown High School grounds.
The Sir Bills’ pitchers, Jay Wing and Noah Stock, showcased a stellar performance, limiting Mayfield to just three hits. Wing, in his four innings on the mound, struck out 10, walked one, allowed two hits and hit one batter. Stock, taking over for the final three innings, struck out five, walked two, hit one batter and allowed only one hit.
On the offensive front, Johnstown could muster only four hits against Mayfield’s Cubby Roth, who despite striking out 10, walking five and hitting two batters over seven innings, couldn’t prevent the defeat.
Nathan Paliling contributed two singles for the Sir Bills, while Travis Tallon and Cole Downing added one hit each to the tally.
For Mayfield, Carter Goodemote managed a double, while Aiden Horn and Landen Clark each contributed with singles.
The Sir Bills took an early lead, scoring twice in the first inning, and then added single runs in the second, third and fifth innings. This victory marks their 11th win in the last 12 games and their sixth consecutive win.
Johnstown, with an impressive record of 12-3 overall and 10-1 in the WAC, is set to host Duanesburg in a non-league match on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Mayfield, with a record of 7-8 overall and 3-7 in the WAC, is scheduled to face Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville on Thursday. The game will take place at 7 p.m. at Soldiers & Sailors Field.
