In a thrilling display of baseball prowess, the second-seeded Mohonasen team clinched a 6-0 victory over the sixth-seeded Troy in the Section 2 Class AA Baseball Tournament semifinals. The match, held at the Joseph L. Bruno Stadium, was dominated by an exceptional pitching performance from Nic Quinlivan.
Quinlivan showcased his skills by throwing a complete game, striking out eight, walking two, and allowing only four hits in 104 pitches. His performance didn’t stop there, as he also doubled and scored a run.
Other notable performances came from Brennan LaRue, who went 2 for 3 with a double, two RBIs, and two runs. Dom Montanye also had a good game, going 2 for 3, knocking in two and scoring once. Daniel Corsaro and Will Quinn each contributed an RBI, while Jadon Perry singled, walked twice, and scored a run.
For Troy, Mason Berghela managed to hit a double.
With this victory, Mohonasen moves forward to the best-of-three championship series against the eighth-seeded Bethlehem. Bethlehem had previously secured a 5-0 win over the fourth-seeded Niskayuna. The championship series will kick off this Friday at Bruno Stadium.
CLASS C
In another exciting match, the second-seeded Saratoga Central Catholic managed to secure a 5-3 win over the third-seeded Greenwich, scoring all the necessary runs in the fourth inning.
Luke Dejnozka was the star of the match, earning the win in relief. He threw 3 2-3 innings, striking out six and allowing three hits, one walk, one hit batter, and one run. Pierce Byrne and Joey Lindner each doubled and had an RBI for the Saints (19-3). Carson Moser doubled, walked, and scored.
Greenwich (14-6) saw commendable performances from Ethan Mullen, who went 2 for 3 with an RBI, and Ryan Ingber, who was 2 for 4 with a double and a run.
The Saints are now set to face the top-seeded Maple Hill (19-1), who secured a 9-0 win over the 13th-seeded Waterford-Halfmoon. Brendan Brodzinski, Liam Niemitalo, and Ronan Johnson combined to throw a one-hitter, with Brodzinski striking out eight over 4 2-3 innings. He also hit two doubles as part of his 3-for-4 night with four RBIs and two runs. Niemitalo was 2 for 3 with three RBIs. Tanner Machia had the Fordians’ hit.
CLASS B
In Class B, top-seeded Taconic Hills triumphed over 13th-seeded Chatham with a 3-1 score, while the sixth-seeded Cairo-Durham defeated seventh-seeded Schuylerville 5-1.
CLASS A
In Class A, top-seeded Averill Park emerged victorious over fourth-seeded Broadalbin-Perth with a 9-1 score, and third-seeded Scotia-Glenville topped second-seeded Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk 6-2.
