GLOVERSVILLE – The Gloversville Police Department reported the arrest of a local teacher on Friday. The teacher is accused of impersonating a student on social media and initiating private conversations with other students.
The accused, Kenneth J. Ille II, a 44-year-old resident of Schenectady, faces two charges of child endangerment, a misdemeanor offense.
The investigation was initiated on May 13, following a report from district officials who suspected a Gloversville teacher of masquerading as a student online. The police subsequently identified the suspect as Ille, a math teacher at Gloversville High School.
According to the police, Ille allegedly set up and operated a social media account under a pseudonym, pretending to be a student. He is said to have used this account to interact with several students.
The police did not provide details about the alleged conversations in their press release.
Ille was arrested on the school premises, as per the police report.
In a statement, Gloversville Superintendent David Halloran emphasized that the safety and well-being of students are the district’s topmost concerns.
“We want to assure our community that we take these allegations very seriously. Our commitment is to ensure a safe, supportive, and respectful learning environment for all,” Halloran stated.
The police have requested anyone who may have had any unusual interactions with Ille to get in touch with them at 518-773-4513.
Agree – This behavior is completely inappropriate and unacceptable. Teachers should be setting a positive example for their students, not engaging in deceitful activities.
Disagree – Needs to be investigated further before jumping to conclusions.
