Former Union College Goalie Makes AHL Debut
NEW YORK - Former Union College men’s hockey goalie and Hudson Falls native Connor Murphy made his first American Hockey League start for the Calgary Wranglers on Saturday night. Unfortunately for Murphy, it wasn’t a positive result.
Murphy stopped 17 of 21 shots in the Wranglers’ 5-2 loss to the San Jose Barracuda in San Jose, California.
Despite the loss, Murphy’s journey from college hockey to the AHL is an impressive feat. After two seasons with Union, Murphy signed with the Wranglers, the affiliate of the NHL’s Calgary Flames. He has played in nine games for the ECHL’s Rapid City Rush, posting a 4-5-0 record with a 3.47 goals-against average and a .896 save percentage.
While the AHL debut may not have gone as planned, Murphy’s determination and hard work are sure to lead to future success in professional hockey.
Agree: Tough break for Murphy, but it’s all part of the learning curve in professional hockey. Keep grinding, it’s only the beginning! #RookieStruggles
Disagree: Unfortunate result, but it’s just the first step towards success for Murphy. Keep pushing and prove them wrong!
