It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Eleanor Thompson, a cherished mother, grandmother, friend, and community member, who left us peacefully at the age of 89.
Eleanor was born on a small family farm in the heart of Iowa, where she developed a deep appreciation for nature and the simple joys of life. Her infectious smile and laughter were a testament to her optimistic outlook and spirited character. After attending the local high school, she pursued a career in education, touching the lives of countless students as an elementary school teacher for over 40 years.
Her retirement years were spent tending to her garden, volunteering at the local library, and baking the best apple pies in the county, which she generously shared with neighbors and friends. Eleanor was an avid birdwatcher and could often be found on her porch with a pair of binoculars and a cup of tea, observing the robins in spring.
Eleanor is survived by her two loving children, Michael Thompson and Susan Williams, five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren, who will miss her stories and wisdom. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Thompson, and her sister, Mary Anderson.
A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Please join us in celebrating Eleanor’s life at the Hope Funeral Home this Saturday at 11 am. Her spirit, love, and memories will forever be in our hearts.
