NAMI ‍FAMILY SUPPORT GROUP GATHERING

SCHENECTADY — The NAMI family support ‍group holds meetings from 6-8 p.m. every⁢ Wednesday at Ellis ‌Hospital, ‌1101 Nott St. ⁢The group, facilitated by trained Clinical Social ‍Worker​ Kevin Moran, is a‌ safe space for family members of individuals dealing with mental health conditions or mental illness. All are welcome, regardless of where ⁢they live. To join this confidential, free ​group, sign in at Ellis Hospital via the Security Desk at the Emergency Department entrance and ask for directions to the B3 conference room.​ For more information, call 518-986-9114.

CHRISTIAN ​WOMEN’S GATHERING

SCHENECTADY — The New York Capital District Christian Women’s Connection is hosting a “Flowers​ in Bloom” ​luncheon at 11:30 a.m. ‍on May‍ 14 at the Guilderland Elks Lodge, 3867 Rte. 146 (Carman Road). The cost is $17 inclusive (cash only). Guest speaker Ann Van Hine will share her experiences of “God’s Presence and Peace in Times of Pain.” ⁤Musical guest Peter Hilmar will be performing. LANDLORDS’ MEETING

SCHENECTADY —‌ Schenectady Landlords⁢ Influencing Change (SLIC) will ‌hold a meeting at 6:30 p.m. on ⁢May 1 at the‌ Trinity Lutheran Church, 35 Furman St. Guest speaker Ericka Vacafores from the Red Cross will discuss​ fire safety, the free smoke alarm installation program and more. ⁣Realtor Lori Dalrymple will also address the ⁢group. SCAP’s housing specialist Donna Gonzalez and Attorney Dan Binisan will provide updates.⁤ The public is invited. A $2 ‌donation is requested ⁢from non-members. Yearly membership is⁢ $35. FOOD AND POVERTY DISCUSSION

ROTTERDAM — The Rotterdam⁢ Community Center, the Labor Religion Coalition of New York State and the‍ Schuyler Center for Analysis and Advocacy will host the Schenectady Food and Poverty Speak-Out on May 1 at the Rotterdam Community‌ Center, 705 Curry Road. Come share and learn about the impact of poverty and food insecurity in our community⁣ and how we can take ‍action‍ to combat them. Dinner will be served at 5 p.m. with speakers beginning at 6 p.m. To attend ‍or volunteer to speak,‌ sign up ⁤at rotterdamcc.org

BBQ FUNDRAISER FOR FOOD PANTRY

ROTTERDAM— Christ’s Church of the Hills will⁢ host a chicken and ribs BBQ‌ from 4-7 p.m. on ​May 17 at the church,⁢ 4809 Mariaville Road. Dine‍ in or take ⁢out. Full rib dinners are $18, half chicken $16, a la carte ribs $11 or chicken $9. To pre-order, call 518-346-1900​ or email cch3461900@gmail.com. Cash or checks accepted. All proceeds will go​ towards the church Blessing⁢ Box food pantry.

KNIT AND CROCHET GROUP SESSION

AMSTERDAM — ​The Amsterdam Free⁣ Library will host a weekly knit and crochet⁣ group at‍ 2 p.m. on ⁣May 1​ at the library, 28 Church St. This is⁤ not a teaching‌ program. Bring your current project. Everyone is welcome. For more information, call ‍518-842-1080

FREE SHRED EVENT

AMSTERDAM —‍ Grow‌ Amsterdam NY, Inc. and the Amsterdam‌ Free Library ‌will sponsor a free community shred event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 4 at Veterans Park. This event is for residents only to destroy up to 4 legal size boxes of their sensitive material. Documents from businesses are not accepted. Non-confidential documents including phone books, magazines, newspapers, junk mail, receipts, binders‌ of any kind, wet, damp, or moldy paper, electronic media including computer disks, diskettes,⁤ or CDs and books will NOT be accepted.
