LONDON — The esteemed Princess of Wales, Kate, expressed on Friday that she is “steadily advancing” in her battle against cancer and confirmed her attendance at the royal Trooping the Color ceremony on Saturday. This will be her first public outing since her diagnosis was made public.
The 42-year-old royal, married to Prince William, has been absent from the public eye this year. She revealed in March that she was undergoing chemotherapy for a yet undisclosed type of cancer.
“My recovery is on track, but as anyone who has experienced chemotherapy can attest, there are peaks and valleys,” Kate shared in a statement on Friday. She also mentioned that she anticipates “a few more months” of treatment.
“I am eagerly anticipating the King’s Birthday Parade this weekend with my family. I also hope to participate in a few public events over the summer, while being fully aware that my journey to recovery is not yet complete,” Kate added.
While this announcement is a significant step forward, it does not signify a complete return to Kate’s full-time public responsibilities.
The Trooping the Color, also known as the King’s Birthday Parade, is a yearly military parade that celebrates the monarch’s official birthday in June. King Charles III, who is also battling an undisclosed type of cancer, is set to preside over the ceremony. The ceremony features troops in full dress uniform parading past the king with their ceremonial flag, or “color.”
Kate is set to journey in a horse-drawn carriage from Buckingham Palace with the couple’s children — Prince George, 10; Princess Charlotte, 9; and Prince Louis, who is 6 — before observing the ceremony from a building adjacent to the parade ground. She may also join other members of the royal family for the traditional Buckingham Palace balcony appearance.

Kate’s announcement in March followed a wave of speculation on social media about her health and absence from public life. She has disclosed little about her illness, which was detected following what she referred to as a major abdominal surgery in January.
In a video message in March, Kate admitted that the diagnosis was “a tremendous shock, and William and I have been doing everything within our power to cope and manage this privately for the sake of our young family.”
On Friday, Kate expressed her gratitude to the public, stating she had been “overwhelmed by all the heartfelt messages of support and encouragement.”

“I am learning to be patient, particularly in the face of uncertainty. Taking each day as it comes, listening to my body, and allowing myself this essential time to heal,” she said. “Thank you so much for your continued understanding, and to all of you who have courageously shared your stories with me.”
Charles, 75, revealed his cancer diagnosis in February, and has recently started to gradually resume his public duties.
Charles is expected to travel to Saturday’s event by carriage with Queen Camilla and is likely to observe the ceremony seated on a dais, as opposed to on horseback as he did the previous year.
