Adirondack Thunder, a team in the ECHL, made an exciting announcement on Tuesday. They have extended the contract of their head coach, Pete MacArthur, for another two years, keeping him at the helm until the end of the 2025-26 season.
MacArthur, who hails from Clifton Park, has been instrumental in leading the Thunder to a North Division regular-season title. Under his guidance, the team achieved a record-breaking season with the highest number of wins (43) and points (97) in the franchise’s history. The Thunder also made it to the Eastern Conference Final, where they put up a valiant fight before succumbing to Florida in six games.
With two seasons under his belt as the Thunder’s coach, MacArthur boasts a commendable record of 75-47-22. He has also successfully led the team to the Kelly Cup Playoffs in both years.
Expressing his gratitude, MacArthur said in a press release, “My family and I are incredibly thankful for the chance to continue this wonderful journey with Adirondack. We are committed to striving for excellence both on and off the ice, and we aim to bring home a Kelly Cup championship with the unwavering support of the best fans in the league.”
Jeff Mead, the President of Thunder, expressed his delight at the contract extension. “We are overjoyed to extend Pete’s contract,” he said in the press release. “In just two short years, he has demonstrated that he is the perfect fit for our organization. We have witnessed remarkable success on the ice, including 17 sellouts last season. We are eager to continue our pursuit of the Kelly Cup under Pete’s leadership.”
Disagree. MacArthur has had ample time to prove himself and hasn’t delivered results. It’s time for a change in leadership.
