SCHENECTADY — The ⁤esteemed President of SUNY Schenectady County Community College, Steady Moono, has announced his intention to ⁢resign from his position‍ in the ‍summer of ‌2026.

Moono’s departure ⁢will coincide with ‌the conclusion of⁤ his current contract, which has been extended by the college until⁣ June 2026. This will mark the end of an 11-year tenure that began in July 2015.

“Serving as the President of ‍SUNY Schenectady has been a privilege,” Moono expressed in⁤ a statement. “I take immense ‍pride in witnessing the transformation of the college community during my tenure, and seeing the innovation and ‍investments across our campus evolve into the SUNY Schenectady of today and the future. I eagerly anticipate the developments that‌ 2025 and the subsequent years will ⁤bring.”

Under Moono’s leadership, the community college has undergone significant renovations, including Elston ⁤Hall ⁣and the‌ Learning Commons. The college also recently unveiled its new eSports arena.

The college administration has yet to announce when the search for Moono’s successor ‌will commence.

“I want⁢ to extend‌ my deepest gratitude to Dr. Moono for his invaluable contributions to‌ SUNY Schenectady and its‌ community,” said‌ Ann⁣ Fleming Brown,⁤ Chair of the SUNY Schenectady Board of Trustees. “We are grateful for his ongoing leadership⁣ and guidance, and we look⁢ forward to celebrating⁢ his ⁢accomplishments in the coming year and⁣ into 2026.”

In June 2023, the community college extended Moono’s ‌contract through June 2024, following a reversal of a decade-long trend of declining enrollment.

During Moono’s presidency, the college ‌has fostered a⁣ stronger ⁤relationship with ‍the Schenectady City School District, with the Schenectady Promise program offering automatic admission to the community college ‌for graduating high school seniors.
