Welcome to‌ our regular feature, Bite-sized, where we bring you⁣ the latest updates on local food festivals, special ⁤events, restaurant news, and ⁤more. Let’s dive‌ in!

Get ready, Saratoga Springs! ⁢The‍ Wild Horse is almost ready to gallop.

Previously known as Dango’s, this Caroline Street Irish sports bar ‍has undergone a significant transformation over the past few months. The owners are planning to open their doors later this week, just in time for the start of the⁢ track ⁢season in Spa⁣ City.

Lucas White, a Boston-based equity ⁢fund‌ partner who grew up in the Capital Region, ⁤has always dreamed of owning a bar.‌ When the opportunity to purchase‌ Dango’s ‌presented itself last⁤ year, he didn’t hesitate and invited Kevin Decker to join him as managing partner.

“I visited Caroline Street, saw the crowds, ⁤and was instantly convinced,” said Decker, a Round ⁣Lake resident and the general manager of Siro’s.

White acquired⁣ Dango’s last fall and the renovation work kicked off earlier this year.

“The building was ⁣in terrible condition and we decided to renovate it in ‌phases,” Decker explained. ⁢He⁢ noted that the kitchen‍ and bathrooms were‍ in particularly bad shape. “We decided to overhaul the ⁢entire layout of ⁤the building.”

The kitchen⁣ was ‍relocated upstairs and‌ a dumbwaiter was installed‌ to ⁢transport food⁢ to the⁣ first floor. The ⁣new bathrooms were ⁢set up where the old kitchen used to be.

“We’ve also added a spacious VIP room with⁤ a balcony overlooking the bustling outside area,”‍ Decker added. “During the offseason, we’ll use this room for special events‍ and musical performances.”

Their goal is to attract more than just the typical sports bar crowd.

“We’ll still have three TVs above the beautifully ‍renovated‌ bar for sports fans. We’ll continue⁣ to serve wings, but we’ll also introduce award-winning salads and upscale raw bar options,” Decker said.

The bar’s new name, The Wild Horse, is⁢ a‌ nod⁣ to the Rolling Stones album⁤ of the same name. Decker mentioned that they’re planning ⁢to host some of the best bands⁢ from the ‌Capital ‌Region.

The Wild ⁢Horse is located⁤ at 38 Caroline St., Saratoga Springs. For more⁣ information, check out‍ Dango’s Saratoga on Facebook.

Coming⁣ Soon: New Chinese Restaurant in Schenectady

Lunar Restaurant, set to open this fall in Schenectady, promises to bring authentic‍ Chinese cuisine to‌ the Electric City.

Jackie Chen,‌ who also owns Mr. Wasabi on⁢ upper Union Street, will be opening Lunar in ‍the place of Drumming Crabs⁢ at 13 North Broadway. Chen and manager Justin Chai are planning ⁤to renovate the building⁣ before opening, adding a patio, windows, and⁢ an additional entrance.

“We are thrilled and grateful for⁢ the opportunity to introduce beloved Chinese cuisine to downtown Schenectady,” Chen said. “Our aim is ⁤to complement the existing fantastic establishments here. My team and I are dedicated to providing a memorable dining experience ⁢that ⁢delights our guests.”

The restaurant’s name, Lunar, is inspired by the Chinese Moon Festival and the lunar calendar, both of which are integral to Chinese culture and celebrations involving‍ traditional foods.

Chai is ‌still working on⁣ the menu, but he revealed that Lunar will feature a ⁢dry-pot⁣ style⁣ of Sichuan ⁣cuisine. This is similar to traditional Chinese hot pot dishes but without the signature broth. Known for its rich flavors and aromatic spices, this sizzling dish⁢ includes a variety ‌of⁢ meats, seafood, and vegetables wok-tossed with ‍different spices.

“It ⁣offers ‍a more robust flavor,” Chai‍ said. “Unlike hot pot where you cook the food yourself, with dry pot, everything is already⁤ cooked.”

Chai hopes this signature ⁢dish will distinguish Lunar from other restaurants. The menu will also feature a blend of modern Asian cuisine and popular Chinese street food.

The decor at Lunar will showcase bright red colors, ⁤symbolizing happiness and good luck in ⁣Chinese culture.

“We’re⁣ hoping⁤ to ⁢incorporate more Chinese ⁢culture into the restaurant’s decoration,” Chai said.

They’re planning to open in September. Chai acknowledged that the location has ‌seen several restaurants come and go over the past decade.

“We’re hoping to change that trend and are ready to take on this challenge,” Chai⁤ said. ⁤“There is still a lot of work to be done, and we are taking⁣ our time to‌ ensure a successful ⁢opening.”
