NEW YORK — In a surprising turn of events, Elon Musk has announced his decision to relocate his businesses from California.
Through a series of posts on X on Tuesday, the tech tycoon revealed his plans to shift SpaceX’s headquarters from Hawthorne, California, to Starbase, Texas. This new location is a company town currently under construction in the southern region of Texas. Additionally, he stated that the social media platform X will be moving from San Francisco to Austin, Texas.
Musk cited the SAFETY Act, a legislation signed by California Gov. Gavin Newsom, as the tipping point for his decision. This law prevents school districts from mandating teachers to inform parents if a child wishes to be recognized by a different gender. Musk described this as “the final straw.”
“Due to this law and the numerous others that came before it, which have targeted both families and businesses, SpaceX will now relocate its HQ from Hawthorne, California, to Starbase, Texas,” Musk shared on X.
In 2022, one of Musk’s children sought legal recognition for her new name and gender from a California court, expressing her desire to sever all ties with her famous and affluent father. Musk has faced criticism for some of his comments on X concerning gender identity matters.
In a subsequent post, Musk expressed his frustration with the escalating violent crime in the vicinity of the building where X is situated in San Francisco.
Musk’s affinity for Texas has been evident for some time. In February, SpaceX applied to change its business incorporation location from Delaware to Texas. This move came after a Delaware state judge rejected Musk’s 2018 Tesla pay package, siding with a shareholder who deemed it excessive.
Back in 2021, Musk announced his intention to move Tesla’s headquarters from the Bay Area to Austin, Texas. Furthermore, in December 2020, Musk revealed that he had relocated to Texas.
