In ALLEGANY COUNTY, N.Y., Governor Kathy Hochul has declared that emergency aid will be made available to homeowners affected by the aftermath of Hurricane Debby, according to WKBW.
The storm, which moved northwards, brought with it heavy rainfall, flooding, and tornadoes, causing significant damage in various parts of New York and northern Pennsylvania.
As a response to this, New York Homes and Community Renewal has initiated an emergency repair program. This program is specifically designed to assist homeowners in Allegany, Delaware, Franklin, Steuben, and St. Lawrence Counties, who have been affected by the storm. The program offers grants of up to $50,000 to fund necessary repairs for damages caused by the storm, which are not covered by insurance.
Moreover, the New York State Department of Financial Services will be deploying staff to the affected communities. Their role will be to assist residents and businesses with any financial services queries they may have.
“Our state agencies have teams on the ground actively helping to clear the damage. We are also collaborating with our local partners as they commence damage assessments,” stated Governor Hochul. “We are committed to providing swift relief for the affected residents and municipalities as they start to rebuild from the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Debby.”
It’s important to note that homeowners in other counties may also become eligible for this aid. This will be determined as state and local recovery agencies carry out damage assessments in the upcoming days.
