Concerns Over Skyrocketing Local Property Taxes
Local residents have necessary questions about recent property tax hikes in Schenectady. The increase has negatively affected many hard-working homeowners, some of whom are barely making ends meet. I was most disconcerted to find that my own property taxes have almost doubled over the last year. This seems to be a widespread issue, with many of my neighbors expressing similar frustrations. It is my hope that the relevant authorities, whom we pay these taxes to, can provide some level of transparency and justification for these ridiculously escalating costs.

A Plea for Safer Streets
I am writing today with a sense of urgency concerning the spike in vehicle accidents on Erie Boulevard. The increased frequency and severity of these incidents is shocking. As a pedestrian and cyclist who uses this route daily, I feel more at risk each passing day. I urge local law enforcement and the Department of Transportation to take a closer look at traffic patterns and to consider implementing additional safety measures. Perhaps a lower speed limit or pedestrian crosswalk signals would be a good start. The streets of Schenectady should not be death traps. They should be safe spaces for all its residents.

Much-Needed Renovation of Central Park Rose Garden
Central Park’s Rose Garden, a jewel of Schenectady, is in desperate need of renovation. This once vibrant and refreshing landscape now presents a dismal sight of wilted roses and an untidy environment. It is not only a source of disappointment for local residents but also tarnishes the image of our beloved city for visitors. I hope the Parks Department can restore it to its former glory before the annual Rose Day Festival. The sight of blooming roses in a well-maintained garden, after all, would make the occasion all the more memorable.
