Siena women’s basketball team overcomes UMass with a strong second-half comeback

In an exciting non-conference matchup, the⁣ Siena women’s ​basketball team staged a thrilling ‍comeback in the ⁣second half to⁤ secure a 57-53 victory over Massachusetts on Sunday.

UMass (2-5) started off strong, leading 10-5 after‌ the first quarter, a⁤ period marked by a combined field goal percentage of⁢ 6 of 33. By halftime, UMass had extended‍ their lead to 26-20.

However, Siena (2-4) turned the tables in ⁣the third quarter with a 9-0 ​run, taking their second lead of ⁢the ⁢game. KB Hadley’s fast-break layup put Siena ahead 30-28.

UMass managed to regain the lead, pushing it to 46-42 with ​just over six minutes remaining. But Siena wasn’t done yet. Ahniysha Jackson’s 3-pointer with ⁢2:58 ⁤left put the Saints back in the lead, 50-48. ‌Teresa Seppala then hit another 3-pointer with 1:52 left, and Zyriah ⁤Price ‍and Hadley each sank two free throws‌ to secure the win ⁤for Siena.

Megan Olbrys was the ‍top performer for UMass, ‍scoring 21 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. ⁣Yahmani McKayle also contributed with‍ 13 points.

For Siena, Seppala led the charge ‌with ⁤21 points, eight rebounds, four steals, and two blocks. Aniya Hooker added 13 points. Jackson contributed 11 points and four assists, while Zyriah Price led the team in rebounds with nine.

Next ⁤Saturday, Siena will host⁤ UAlbany in the much-anticipated Albany Cup.
