Dorothy Allen passed away at the age of 76, her life a beautiful reflection of her kindness, intelligence, and grace.

Dorothy hailed from the vibrant city of Buffalo, New York, which she often referred to as a place of tough weather but warm hearts. She was an esteemed journalist for the local newspaper, celebrated for her insightful columns that captured the pulse of her beloved city. Her career spanned over three decades, and she was a trailblazer for women in the media industry.

A life-long learner and an advocate for the arts, Dorothy served on the boards of various cultural institutions, always pushing for community access to the arts. Her love for the written word was only matched by her love for opera, a passion she shared with her late husband, Richard.

She is survived by her two children, Laura and Robert; four grandchildren; and her little schnauzer, Max, who was her constant companion. Her spirited discussions and generous mentorship will be missed by many.

Dorothy’s service will be held in a place that was close to her heart, the Buffalo Arts Museum, next Thursday evening. Family, friends, and colleagues will come together to honor a woman whose elegance and intellect brightened the lives of all who knew her.
