ALBANY, N.Y. ⁤- A limousine ‌service manager was found guilty of manslaughter​ on Wednesday for his role in a ⁤tragic crash that claimed the​ lives ​of 20 people in rural New York. This devastating incident stands as one of the deadliest U.S. road wrecks in the past ⁣two decades.

The verdict, reached ⁣after two days ‍of​ deliberations, has brought​ a mix of emotions ⁣for the families of the victims ​who have been waiting for years to see someone held ⁢accountable for the⁣ tragedy. Shouts and cries filled the⁤ courtroom as the guilty verdict ​was read.

The stretch-style SUV, packed with birthday revelers, veered off the road in 2018 due to brake ⁢failure, ultimately colliding with a parked‌ car and ⁣trees before coming to⁣ a stop in a streambed in Schoharie, a village west of ‍Albany. The crash resulted in​ the loss of 17⁢ passengers, the‍ driver, and two bystanders.

Prosecutors argued that the defendant, Nauman Hussain, intentionally neglected⁣ to conduct required state ‌inspections on the vehicle, which would ⁢have revealed the brake ‍defects and potentially prevented the tragic accident. However, the ⁣defense claimed ​that ‌Hussain was misled by a repair shop and should not be held solely responsible.

Following the verdict, Hussain was‍ taken into ‌custody, leaving his defense lawyer “heartbroken” by the outcome. The families of the victims, while relieved by the conviction,​ expressed mixed emotions about‌ the situation, with one family member stating, “No‍ one likes to see someone’s life destroyed, and I don’t want to feel that way.”

The trial, which included testimonies‍ from various witnesses, marked a turning point for the families after facing delays and a⁢ rejected plea ⁢deal. While the verdict ​may bring a sense of closure, the pain and loss experienced by the families will undoubtedly endure.
