Siena men’s basketball: Courtney shines, but Saints seek bench support

ALBANY — The Siena ‌men’s basketball‍ team faced a tough challenge against Quinnipiac⁣ at​ MVP Arena⁤ on Friday night. Despite a career ⁤night from sophomore guard Mason Courtney, Siena fell short with a final score of⁤ 82-70.

Quinnipiac’s defense focused on shutting down Siena’s offensive ‍threat, Sean Durugordon. However, this opened up opportunities for ⁣other players, such as ⁢Courtney, to shine. Siena head coach Carm Maciariello welcomed the defensive strategy,​ hoping it would create openings for ⁢other players.‍ However, ⁤the lack of⁢ scoring depth and bench depth became ⁤evident as the game​ progressed.

With Durugordon struggling to find his rhythm, and other key players facing ​foul trouble and injuries, ⁤Siena’s ⁢reserves struggled to make an impact on the game. Maciariello emphasized⁤ the‍ need for ⁣consistency and⁤ better decision-making on the court.

Despite the loss, Durugordon remains optimistic,‌ acknowledging the challenges posed by Quinnipiac’s defense and the need for better​ offensive execution. Moving forward, Siena‍ will‍ focus on⁣ improving their rebounding and⁢ overall team performance.

Looking ahead, Siena will face‌ Marist in their next game, hoping to bounce back from the recent ⁤loss. However, they may ‍be without⁢ the services​ of freshman forward Michael Ojo, ‍who is ⁤recovering from a concussion.
