Welcome to the 90th anniversary celebration of the March 1934 Snow Train from Schenectady into the Adirondacks! Join us for a series of exciting events that will take you back in time to the early days of skiing in the Adirondacks.
Our first event will be held this Saturday night at the Tannery Pond Center in North Creek, where town of Rotterdam historian Jim Schaefer will be giving a presentation on “How Skiing Came to North Creek: Schenectady’s Role,” at 6:30 p.m.
But that’s not all! Starting on Tuesday, Feb. 6, we will be hosting a series of events at the Wolf Hollow Brewing Company on Route 5 in Glenville. The series will kick off with “Old Ski Movie Night from the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s” at 6 p.m.
Did you know that the Schenectady Wintersports Club, formed in 1932, created the first snow train with the help of the Delaware and Hudson Railroad Company? On March 4 of that year, 400 skiers boarded a train from downtown Schenectady and traveled to North Creek for a day of skiing.
Join us as we commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Snow Train with events throughout March at Gore Mountain, the North Creek Depot Museum, and the Tannery Pond Center. Plus, don’t miss the historic exhibit about the snow train at the Rotterdam Town Hall through the end of March.
