Concerns Over Increased Traffic in East Schenectady

The recent report on WHNY News about the proposed redevelopment of the old warehouse district in East Schenectady has left me both hopeful and worried. While on one hand, this area has been needing a boost for years, I fear that the influx of new stores and businesses will result in increased traffic congestion. Areas, such as Union Street and Erie Boulevard, are already struggling with heavy traffic during peak hours. Before rezoning the area, I believe the City Council needs to ensure the creation of a robust traffic management plan, perhaps taking insight from residents like us who traverse these roads daily.
A Plea for More Green Spaces

Following your recent segment on the rising urban heat effects in Schenectady, I feel compelled to voice my concern regarding the lack of green spaces in our beloved city. Many US cities are aiming to alleviate urban heat effects by implementing more green spaces, and we must do the same. Green spaces not only provide respite for residents during sweltering summer months but also serve as a community gathering spot, boosting mental well-being. I urge city officials to actively address this concern and work towards a healthier, greener Schenectady.
The Issue with Street Lighting in Central State

I appreciate your extensive coverage on community issues, and would now like to bring to light another – the inadequate street lighting in our Central State neighborhood. Insufficient lighting not only affects visibility for drivers and pedestrians, but it also incites fear of potential crime. It endangers young people returning late from part-time jobs and elderly citizens who might be out on evening walks. As residents, we have a right to feel safe in our area. I hope WHNY News will highlight this issue and motivate our local authorities to immediately rectify this situation.
