Welcome ⁣to our regular feature, Bite-sized, where ⁤we ‍bring you ⁤the latest ⁢updates on local food⁣ festivals, special events, menu ⁣changes,⁣ restaurant news⁤ and more. ‌Let’s dive right in!

SCHENECTADY -‍ Whether you⁣ prefer them fried, scalloped or baked, the⁣ much-loved Tater Trot⁤ is making a comeback in‍ Schenectady on Saturday, July 13.

Organized by the⁢ Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corporation, ‌the event follows the successful format of the Wing Walk and ⁤the Soup Stroll. City restaurants will be showcasing their best potato-based recipes for ‍just $1 a sample. Attendees will have⁢ the opportunity to vote for ⁢their⁢ favorite dish.

“Whether you’re using russets, reds or sweet⁣ potatoes, and whether you’re serving them scalloped, mashed, fried, as potato salad, potato soup or latkes, the⁣ only requirement is that the dish is primarily potato-based. ‍We’ve seen a fantastic range of diverse recipes in ⁤the past,” said Maureen‍ Neufeld, the executive director of ‍the DSIC.

The inaugural Tater Trot took place last May, with 22‌ restaurants participating. The event was a ⁢huge⁣ success,‍ attracting ‍several thousand attendees, far exceeding‌ the expected 1,000. Simone’s Kitchen ‍was the proud ⁣winner of the first event.

“The ⁣turnout was impressive for a first-year event,”⁣ Neufeld said.

The biggest challenge in organizing the event⁢ this year was finding a suitable⁤ date. ⁢Originally, it was ⁢set ⁤to return on May ‌18, but due to a ⁣number of other events taking place downtown ⁤on the same weekend, the⁢ DSIC decided to reschedule. The new date is‍ just after the ⁢Schenectady County SummerNight, which‌ is scheduled for Friday, ⁣July 12.

“The ⁣biggest challenge ⁢is‍ also our ⁤biggest blessing. Downtown Schenectady is always buzzing with activity. It’s a wonderful problem to have, but it does make scheduling ⁣events a‍ bit tricky,” Neufeld ⁤said.

The list of participating restaurants is ⁣yet to be finalized, but the DSIC will ⁤be⁢ announcing some of the participants on‍ social media⁢ in the coming weeks. The Tater Trot will take⁤ place⁢ from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For ⁤more details, check out the event page on Facebook or visit downtownschenectady.org.
